Nick Montfort defended his doctoral dissertation on narrative “variance” in interactive fiction at UPenn this morning and has posted some of the more choice nuggets here at Grand Text Auto. Fascinating stuff.
If you happen upon this humble little post, Nick, congrats. We talked quite a bit about your essay on IF (in the First Person collection) in my Games & Lit course this spring, and thoroughly enjoyed playing/reading Book and Volume. And I’ve always adored 2002, that delicious palindrome text you wrote with William Gillespie a few years back. You da man.
Errr, Doctor.

Thanks for this kind note, Trevor! I am very glad to hear that some of my literary attempts have been enjoyable – maybe I’ll get to do some more work in that direction soon, using what I’ve been researching.
